The Ideal Type Of Redeemer In The Antichrist

Nietzsche is a highly controversial philosopher in the history of philosophy.On the one hand,his expression is provocative and his critiques of the earlier thinkers are sometime shocking;on the other hand,he has been given many labels:he is said to be the founder of the 20^th century irrationalism,he is the one who declares that"God is dead",and has been seen as the advocate of the philosopher of Superman;finally,by reevaluating the current value system,his thoughts becomes one of the significant sources of a number of the branches of postmodernism.In this thesis,I interpret the type of“the Redeemer”in Nietzsche’s late book,The Antichrist.The type of the Redeemer is one of the types of man in Antichrist,which is,as its subtitle shows,“a curse on Christianity.”Nietzsche’s critique of Christianity is mainly divided into two aspects:First,the evaluation of good and evil brought about by Christianity is the reversal of the classical notion of nobility,which presupposes the hierarchy of the types of man.The establishment of the Christian morality ultimately leads to the weakening of the will to power among the noble men;Secondly,morality is not just an ethical concept in Nietzsche.It is also the will of man to empower nature.According to Nietzsche,man’s rational optimism will suffer the consequences of the instrumentalization of reason and the simplification and distortion of nature.The redeemer is the one who saves people from their pathetic status.By examining the psychology of the type of the redeemer,Nietzsche restored Jesus from the narratives about him in the New Testament.As an“idiot,”Jesus restored the concept of redeemer that had been empowered by the priests.At the same time,in Nietzsche’s view,Jesus was a true messenger of the“good tidings”.He used the spirit of the gospel to melt away the opposition,to abolish the notion of sin and punishment,and to create a kind of acceptance in the state of being blessed.The role Paul played in Christianity is central to Nietzsche.According to Nietzsche,Paul was the true founder of Christianity.He distorted the teachings of Jesus.But at the same time,Nietzsche admits that Paul was a genius.Paul’s greatness lies in his successful completion of a subversion of value in ancient times.Nietzsche needs to make a reevaluation in his time.
