Report On The Translation Of Connections For Steel-Timber Hybrid Prefabricated Buildings

This is a translation report on the translation of Connections for Steel-timber Hybrid Prefabricated Buildings,published in the journal Construction and Building Materials in 2015.The source text involves two papers: “Experimental Tests” and“Innovative Modular Structures”,mainly dealing with a novel versatile construction system in which the main structural members,made by combining timber with steel,are highly engineered and can be produced in the factory.The first paper addresses some fundamental aspects and potentialities of steel-timber hybrid prefabricated systems.And the second describes two innovative steel-timber hybrid components to build floors and shear walls.This translation report can be divided into four parts.The first section presents task description,in which the selection of the translating material,objectives and significance of the task are discussed.The second section talks about process description,including pre-translation preparation,such as professional knowledge,glossary building,translation tools preparation and theoretical foundation,and translation process like analysis of the ST,structuring of the TT and summary of translation difficulties,as well as the post-translation job: proofreading.The third part is the core of this report.Under the guidance of Nord’s translation-oriented text analysis model,the author analyzes key and difficult cases in detail at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels based on her translation.At the end of the report is the conclusion,in which solutions to difficult problems,innovations and limitations are presented.
