| The book Intercultural Communication for Global Business is a recent research result on intercultural communication and global leadership.Its content is novel and comprehensive.Therefore,the translator selected one chapter of the book for translation.The thesis mainly contains three parts,the source text of Chapter 2 of Intercultural Communication for Global Business,the translated version by the translator and the translation report.Chapter 2(Cultural Competence for Leaders)examines the latest research regarding CQ(cultural quotient)and highlights several models.The Model of Cultural Intelligence is the process whereby we can develop awareness and understanding,reflect on it in a mindful way,and then practice the skills we learn in order to become competent.It is an iterative process—one that the author calls ‘‘cultural improvisation.’’ The Chinese version aims to provide domestic researchers and those interested in intercultural communication and global leadership with some latest materials for reference and enhance Chinese reader’s mindset and skill set in a way that develops cultural intelligence.After careful analysis,the translator concludes that the text is informative function text,hence Newmark’s communicative translation theory is chosen as the theoretical guide for translation,and it is expected to provide a translation that can be accepted and understood by readers both in content and language.The translation report is comprised of four sections: task description,process description,case analysis and the conclusion.The first section introduces the background,objective,significance and the structure of the report;the second section describes the translation process which incorporates translation preparation,translation difficulties as well as post-translation management;the third part,case analysis,illustrates how the translator practice under the guidance of communicative translation theory with abundant cases;the final section draws a conclusion about the translation project by summarizing the findings and limitations after the translation practice. |
