Chinese teachers use body language while teaching foreign students,which makes teaching activities smoother and easier,and is of great significance in teaching.For most foreign students,the tone discrimination and Chinese character writing are two important yet difficult points.Repetitive reading and writing can’t achieve good effect,so it is more and more important to find a better method to impress them with the knowledge.The use of body language can greatly increase students’ curiosity and attention,stimulate their learning motivation,and activate and simplify Chinese teaching.This research takes the preservice Chinese teachers in Shanghai University of Political Science and Law the degree of body language awareness,the quantitative characteristics and type of the body language,and the concrete expression effect of body language of Chinese preservice teachers.This study video-recorded the preservice teachers’ body language in the classroom instruction and transcribed the teacher’s body language in detail.The study analyzed the video transcription with the interview and questionnaire results to answer the research questions.It is found that,first,the degree of body language awareness for the trainee teachers is not strong.Second,the total number of body language used is at the acceptable level for the students.Third,the types of body language are insufficient,and the preservice teachers’ ability to accurately express the teaching knowledge needs to be strengthened.Fourth,the body language used while teaching promotes knowledge teaching and students’ concentration.However,the standardization of body language expression needs to be further deepened.
