| The Translation Variation Theory(TVT),proposed by Huang Zhonglian,has experienced a long period of time to thrive since 1998.It contains specific translation approaches to satisfy readers’ special needs,including supplement,deletion,condensation,remodeling,trans-editing,paraphrasing,rewriting strategies.This study aims to analyze sci-tech news translations(E to C)under the guidance of TVT.The news materials are selected from BuzzFeed News,which is an emerging news website prevailing among young people in the United States.Given the different characteristics of news headlines,lead and body,the translator adopts relevant translation variation approaches in translating them and attempts to explain how to apply specific approach in each of the cases.The main difficulties in the present translation practice come from information selection,improvement on readability and translation of sci-tech specific expressions.Implied by the TVT,the translator has proposed three translation strategies in dealing with the three difficulties accordingly: deletion and condensation strategy for information selection,remodeling and trans-editing strategy for improvement on readability,and supplement strategy for specific professional sci-tech expression.The translator hopes that the TVT could provide a new angle for sci-tech news translation. |
