A Report On The Translation Of Rehabilitation And Upgrading Of Shinyanga Airport(Chapter 7)

Since the development of globalization,exchanges in different areas have been more frequent and continue to increase.As one of the major economic power,China plays a more active role in the bidding activities of international engineering.The engineering bidding document is translated as having a very large share of the translation market and is the most commonly used translation service within a translation company.Only in theory,the development of a bidding document translation is a practice that is unbalanced.Particularly,the bidding documents on the materials regarding the international civil aviation are scarce.Currently,such document on translation needs more attention and in-depth study.Therefore,the translation study is of the utmost importance for the aviation industry development in China while good translation works could promote the exchanges between China and other countries.The context in this report is originally the “Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Shinyanga Airport.” There is limited research on translation of aviation bidding.The project having fifteen chapters consists of 150,000 words.The author is responsible for translating Chapter Seven of the bidding document with word count of 15,000 words.Based on the theory of Vermeer Skopo,this report discusses on a bidding document of a foreign airport,and it uses various translation strategies from a syntactic,lexical,and a textual level.A variety of professional terms are used during the translation process.The bidding document also includes long sentences and passive sentences.Once the author analyzes the terms and sentences,the corresponding translation strategy is found.During this case study,the author probes into the three rules in Skopos Theory and applies this theory towards translation of bidding document.With time arrangement,the author successfully completes the translation work and realizes the best way to translate a bidding document is to have good command of the source language,as well as the target language,and to graspe all skills involved for translating a bidding document.It also pays to be prepared with background knowledge of bidding document.This report intends to make people understand more about the value and the importance of translations in this particular field.It is my hope that this report will provide reference on the renovation for the domestic civil aviation airports,as well as being in the position of being referred to other such translating for the civil aviation of engineering for bidding translations.
