Research On Theme Realization Of Xin Qiji's Song Lyrics From The Perspective Of Text World Theory

Text World Theory,as a theoretical modal which studies language-processing,is based on mental representation in cognitive psychology and empiricism in cognitive linguistics.Compared with other cognitive linguistic theories,Text World Theory shows great uniqueness in the wide application of cognitivism principles to analytical practice.It not only focuses on the construction of a particular text,but also concerns the impact of context circumstance exerted upon discourse production and reception.The world in Text World Theory is a kind of mental world,immediately representing the state of particular events.According to Werth's classification,a world can be divided into three layers: discourse world,text-world,and sub-world;among them,text-world is the core.Xin Qiji was one of the eminent poet and military leader in Southern Song Dynasty;however he was never entrusted with significant post as he had anticipated.More than 600 Song Lyrics were created in his lifetime,the profound,subtle,bold and unconstrained style of which makes Xin Qiji the forerunner of Southern Song Lyrics.He epitomizes the wide application of classical allusions;meanwhile,he employs flexibly the temporal and spatial expressions covering past,present and future to make striking contrast,revealing the life changes as well as zigzag experiences.From ancient times,myriads of research have been done on Xin Qiji and his Song Lyrics;nevertheless,few cognitive attempts have been made from the perspective of Text World Theory.Accordingly,this study is going to explore Xin's Song Lyrics with the use of Text World Theory,to illustrate the production and reception process of theme realization,providing a new approach for classical Chinese poetry appreciation and inheritance.Research background,significance and layout of the whole thesis are introduced at the first place.Then overviews of the studies concerning cognitive poetics,Text World Theory and Xin's Song Lyrics will be presented.Subsequently,the main body of the thesis expounds cognitive mechanisms behind the theme realization of Xin's Song Lyrics from three aspects: the duality of text-world building,multi-layer function-advancing propositions and the world-switches and sub-worlds.Among Xin's Song Lyrics,the duality of text-world building requires the participation of heteronomousness principle: taking both the intrinsic and extrinsic attributes of text-world building into consideration,which is a text-driven interaction between readers and Xin Qiji across temporal and spatial boundaries.Text-worlds in Xin's Song Lyrics involve multi-layer function-advancing propositions.The poetic theme gradually emerges when simple propositions develop into complex propositions,mono-layer function advancings work together to form multi-layer function-advancings.The world-switches and various sub-worlds derive from the original text-worlds give rise to the change of poetic perspectives,from which the poetic theme and inner feelings of Xin's Song Lyrics get revealed.Finally,the thesis draws a conclusion of this research,which includes major research findings,limitations and future expectations.
