During the period of the Republic of China,due to the influence of Western advanced technology and culture,in this period of political and economic turmoil and relatively free speech,various party groups used newspapers and periodicals as their public opinion positions,setting off an unprecedented climax of running newspapers.These newspapers and magazines have actively promoted political changes,disseminated modern advanced ideology and culture,and played an important role in promoting social progress.Since September 3,1853,Hong Kong’s first Chinese-language publication,"Xiaer Guanzhen",appeared "advertising".It was the first source of advertising for the publication of Chinese newspapers,and the golden age of newspapers and magazines in the Republic of China.The emergence of commercial advertisements naturally requires the newspapers to diversify the form of graphic design,especially the need to make new attempts in the layout and illustration of newspaper advertisements.For example,the line spacing and kerning of newspaper advertisements present a rectangular or square block outline,with concise text and realistic illustrations,and use art words to inscribe the various things to the reader.As a new layout design method,newspaper advertisement illustrations were particularly eye-catching at the time,which also made illustrations and advertisements gradually become an indispensable part of the newspapers.These advertising illustrations flowing through the long history of graphic design are undoubtedly the visual treasures left for us in a certain period of time.They need to be sorted and explored,which has reference significance for today’s newspaper advertisement design.This article is divided into five chapters to explore the advertisements of newspapers and periodicals in the Republic of China.The first chapter mainly discusses the research background and significance,research status,research scope definition,research methods and research ideas and framework.The second chapter elaborates on the historical evolution and development of newspaper advertisement illustrations and the diversification of newspaper advertisements.The chapter explores the characteristics of the illustrations of newspapers and periodicals in the Republic of China,and analyzes and discusses the cases of brush strokes,era comics,comic strips,etc.The fourth chapter starts from the illustration style with the characteristics of the Republic of China,through market research and analysis,explores the expression forms of the Republic of China style advertising illustrations at the present stage,and conducts practical exploration and experimentation.Forms of expression,and practical exploration and experimentation;Chapter 5 summary and outlook.The research of this paper is mainly in the field of historical research.The existing research results are the first essentials of historical data research.It mainly through the literature review,case analysis,comparative analysis and research methods,combined with the research results ofdesign studies,to construct the illustration design of newspapers and periodicals in the Republic of China.Basic theoretical framework.
