| Teacher Talk can influence even determine the success or failure in classroom teaching.High quality of Teacher Talk can help students improve their language learning ability,promote their language learning motivation,arouse their interest and confidence in language learning.As for teachers,knowing the characteristics of their talk can help them rethink the speech that they used in classroom teaching which can improve the quality and effectiveness of their talk.Based on discourse analysis and Long’s interaction hypothesis theory,the author investigated 4 teachers and their 234 students from Nanchong Baita Middle School as the research subjects,and the four teachers’ English lessons are analyzed through classroom observation,transcription,questionnaire and interview.This study focuses on three questions:(1)What are the characteristics of Teacher Talk in senior high school English classroom?(2)What are the problems of Teacher Talk in senior high school English classroom(3)How to improve Teacher Talk in senior high school English classroom?The introduction of this paper introduces the background information of Teacher Talk and the research questions of this paper.The second part is the literature review at home and abroad,and two theoretical foundations of this study.The third part is the research design and the fourth part is the analysis of research data.The last chapter is the summary of research findings and suggestions for Teacher Talk in senior high school English classroom.The survey finds that Teacher Talk has some characteristics and problems,such as excessive amount of Teacher Talk,English as main language in classroom teaching,Teacher Talk of poor quality,teachers’ willingness to answer by themselves,preference for positive feedback and single feedback method.And some suggestions have been put forward for Teacher Talk,like giving equal chances,giving enough thinking time for students,improving the professional level,using positive feedback with comments appropriately and so on.Because the participants of the study are relatively limited,the time of the study is short,and some of the classroom teaching clips can not be recorded for some exiting noise,there are some limitations.But this research can be the foundation for my further study. |
