Since the modern times,many foreign missions from different countries have successively spread protestantism in the Rehe Region.In1885,London Missionary Society dispatched the missionary James Gilmour to carry out the missionary activity in the east of Rehe,but his missionary activity was challenged by the Catholicism and local religious forces.After James Gilmour died,Liu Maolin and John Parker to continue it in Chaoyang and Lingyuan.In 1891,Jindandao event happened in Rehe.Liu Maolin and other people were attacked in this event.In Yihetuan Movement broken out in 1900,the church organizations of London Missionary Society in Rehe suffered from the massive assault.In the next year,London Missionary Society handed over Chaoyang and Lingyuan churches in Rehe and their properties to Presbyterian Church in Ireland and then it evacuated from Rehe.After that,Presbyterian Church in Ireland took over Chaoyang and Lingyuan churches and brought them into the missionary system in the northeast of China.In 1897,Plymouth Brethren entered into Rehe and did missionary work in Pingquan.Then,depending on Pingquan,Plymouth Brethren constantly developed the force in the west and north of Rehe.In 1912,Presbyterian Church in Ireland handed over the churches and properties in the east of Rehe to the Plymouth Brethren.Since then,Plymouth Brethren have dominated the missionary activity in Rehe.In 1935,Manchu Missionary Society went to Rehe and set up the churches in Chengde,Chifeng,Weichang,andXinglong successively.In 1942,Manchu Missionary Society merged all churches and properties established by Plymouth Brethren in Rehe.In1945,Manchu Missionary Society was destructed,implying that more than 60 years of missionary history of foreign Christian missionary society in Rehe came to an end.
