This paper is a translation project report on O.Henry's short stories.Although O.Henry's short stories already have several translated versions in China, most of the renditions date back years ago.Furthermore, any translation is only a reflection of the linguistic reality at that time, and cannot exhaust the understanding and interpretation of the original text, with its own contemporaneity. Therefore,it is necessary to retranslate classics at different times.Jiangsu Education Press decided to retranslate and publish A Short Story Collection of O.Henry, demanding that the rendition must conform to the characteristics of modern adolescences. The author is honored to participate and translated eleven short stories. The author chose The Gift of the Magi,The Chair of Philanthromathematics, and Roads of Destiny as study cases for this translation report. The author analyzed and discussed major issues and difficulties faced in the translation process on lexical level, syntactic level and the translation of humor.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, the author tried to use methods like liberal translation, lexical category conversion, split, merge, and amplification and omission to solve the difficulties and analyzed the translation project using several examples. The author also summarized lessons and experiences learnt from this translation project, and provided certain references for future translation.
