Multi-Cultural City Image Study Of Georgetown And Melacca

This thesis applied five elements of city image by Kevin Lynch which is "Paths,Edges,Districts,Nodes,Landmarks" on the city images of Georgetown and Melacca.Selecting Georgetown and Melacca as research target mainly because the both cities listed as the world heritage cities and both cities are the two most extensive historic port settlements in Malaysia and also in the Strait of Melacca.First chapter explaining some of the basic concept,thesis content,some of the research problems during the process and the list goes on.Studies areas and definition explains the basic background and the main reason of topic chosen.A summaries which briefs about the information and substances collected follows after thesis definition.A brief explanation and summaries about all the difficulties met throughout the study is the last part in first chapter.Second chapter is about the Georgetown and Melacca city images collected from the city planning,literary and visual texts.The content mainly about Penang City Image in Malaysian Chinese literature and TV Program with Documentary which introduce about Melacca city.It is about the brief introduction on the city image collected.Third chapter analyse the city images based on the five elements of city image.In this chapter,author differentiate the city images collected into five elements which is "paths,edges,districts,nodes,landmarks".The last chapter analysing about the cultural connotation of the city image.The content is mainly about urban memories,urban culture and it's culture morphology.It's mainly because urban memories recorded the city's history,and it's part of the city culture formation,and all of it displayed through the culture morphology.Finally it's the conclusion of the thesis.After that it's all of the references books and thesis which is relevant,and some of the photos included in the appendix.
