| As the economy has been rapidly developing,China’s education has risen to an unprecedented level.More and more overseas universities have established ties with universities in China.At the same time,many teachers and students from overseas exchange experiences and learn from each other in China.In order to better serve the two sides,translation is particularly important.As most of the exchange and communication sites are in schools,compared with the preparation of facilities for simultaneous interpretation,consecutive interpretation will greatly save the organizer’s cost and time,thus becoming the first choice of exchange and communication between Chinese and foreign scholars.On June 26,2017,the author was honored to receive the invitation to be an interpreter for the seminar on FQ education to be held on the afternoon of June 28,2017.The author would interpret for the two sides: the American side,California State University,and the Chinese side,Institute of Chinese Financial Studies of SWUFE.At this seminar,the author mainly interpreted for several professors from the Chinese side.The interpreting task was fulfilled by the author and her partner.After the meeting,the author listened to the record and found many unheard-of problems in interpretation.At the same time,the author found that there was a big difference between the on-the-spot interpretation and after-class self-practice.Taking this practice as a case,the author read large numbers of literature and studied relevant theory.By using the method of case analysis,the author analyzed some problems that occurred during the process of interpreting such as pause,omission and misinterpretation,found the reasons that caused the problems,and resorted to some coping strategies accordingly.To better understand the problems,the author transcribed the sound of the audio into the text,which faithfully reflects the author’s interpretation process.This report is,based on the practice of consecutive interpretation,composedmainly of four chapters.The first chapter describes the task,including the background,significance,challenges and summary of the task.The second chapter introduces the preparation of the task,including preparation before the task and on-job preparation.The third chapter is theory introduction and case analysis.In this part the author introduces the theory of Gile’s Energy Distribution Model and the four stages of this interpretation theory,then reviews and analyzes the problems encountered in the interpretation practice.Specific analysis of the problem includes: pause,omission,and misinterpretation.At the same time,the author takes Gile’s Energy Distribution Model as a theoretical guide to analyze the causes of the problems,and sums up the coping strategies accordingly.The fourth chapter is the conclusion part,including the evaluation from the organizer and the author’s personal reflections.Through the analysis of this practice,this report aims to provide practical reference for the author and other interpreters.The author also hopes that by analyzing this practice,we can solve similar problems and make better performances in future interpretation tasks.Meanwhile,this report,to some extent,is expected to remind other interpreters to acquire financial knowledge,enhance financial awareness,and call attention to financial education in daily life. |
