The practice report describes how the author prepares,conducts and reviews a scientific and technical translation task under the guidance of Hans J.Vermeer’s Skopos Theory.With the further development of economic globalization,China has been playing an active part in the world economy,who has developed unprecedentedinter actions with various countries around the world.And in the 21st century,health is an important issue in that people care much more about health than ever before.Therefore,the whole international market has developed an increasing demand for medical devices in recent years,in which China has imported many different kinds of advanced medical devices from developed countries.Under such circumstances,the entire domestic society needs translatorsto translate the foreign language medical device manuals into Chinese,especially those from English countries.And the author was authorized to translate some parts of the AEROSPRAY^?HEMATO LOGYSTAT SLIDE STAINER/CYTOCENTRIFUGE Model 7122 Applications Manual.This practice report expounds how the author finishes her task as a translatorfor AEROSPRAY^? HEMATOLOGY STATSLIDE STAINER/CYTOCENTRIFUGE Model 7122 Applications Manual.Assigned with the task,the author firstly reads the source text（ST）and parallel texts carefully for many times,then she resorts to translation tools,including a large number ofprofessional dictionaries,online translationsoftware and computer aided translation tools such as CAT.Thanks to these tools,the author is able to make a glossary of the technical terms appeared in the ST.Next,sherefers to some previous studies of the ST so that she canget a better understanding of the stylistic characteristics,language features and translation practice researches on this kind of scientific and technical text.Then the author tries to choose a propertheoryto guide her translation task.For one thing,the manual aims to convey the use information of the technology product to consumers.The client requires that the target text（TT）should be appropriate for the textual features,linguistic characteristics of the medical device manual and expressing habits of C hinese.And the TT should accurately reproduce the scientific and technical information.For another,“the first principle of manual translation is that it should realize the communicative goal of the TT in target culture,which makes the communicative goal similar to the ST”（何其莘、仲伟合、许钧 2011: 252）.Based on the analysis of the translation task,the ST,the TT,and the early researches about the translation of such text,the author thinks that the Skopos Theory should be applied to the translation of the medical device manual.Thus,thepracticereport plans to analyze how the author applies the theory to guide the whole process of hertranslation,includingtranslation strategies and translation methods.Lastly,the practice report draws a conclusion on how the translator cantranslatethe medical device manual accurately and professionally.The author also summarizes her findings and limitations in the process of the translation,which helps her to make progress in future study.
