Among the high school students nowadays in China,there are a certain number of English low-achievers,who have some obstacles,such as low learning interest,weak foundation,improper methods in their process of English learning.The traditional classroom teaching faces to the whole class and enable to pay enough attention to each student,especially on English low-achievers.Therefore,the transformation of the English low-achievers has become an important issue for English teachers.Although domestic and foreign scholars have studied a lot on English low-achievers,they mainly focused on their causes,characteristics and learning status.Based on existed researches,this study tries to apply micro-course teaching to transforming the different types of English low-achievers in senior high school after regular classroom teaching.This study tries to answer two questions: 1.How to transform the English low-achievers in high school through micro-course teaching? 2.What is the effect on the transformation of English low-achievers based on micro-course teaching? In order to answer the questions above,this study selects 153 English low-achievers in No.103 high school in Dalian according to the standard involved in this study and then divided them into three types: 1)English low-achievers lacking of motivation;2)those with weak foundation;3)those with improper methods.After that,6 students are selected in total as the research subjects,with 2 students in each type,who receive the micro-course teaching after regular classroom teaching.Before the micro-course teaching,the six students have the module tests at first as the protests.In the experimental teaching,the entertaining micro-courses are adopted for the transformation on English low-achievers lacking of motivation;the micro-courses of knowledge tuition are applied to those with weak foundation;the method-guided micro-courses are for those with improper methods.Finally,the test and individual interview are conducted and the data are collected and analyzed.Through comparative analysis of the grades before and after the micro-course teaching,it can be seen that English low-achievers have corresponding improvement in the learning of vocabulary,reading and grammar.By the analysis of the interview for different types of English low-achievers,those lacking of motivation have improved their interest in English learning,and those with weak foundation have gradually overcome the weak points,and those with improper methods have corrected some mechanical learning methods.From above,the following conclusions are drawn: it is feasible to adopt different micro-course for different types of English low-achievers;Micro-course teaching have positive transformation effects on English low-achievers in high school.
