There are a lot of errors in the use of Chinese punctuation marks in the process of Chinese writing training for foreign students in Burundi.Finding out their errors,the rules of students’ errors and helping students to use Chinese punctuation marks correctly has become a new direction in punctuation research.The students average age is 30 years old.Their language background is Kirundi,English and French and their Chinese level is medium and high.After continuously collecting their writing corpus in different periods,it was found that the students of Burundi overused punctuation in the process of using Chinese punctuation.The usage of punctuation was monological,those punctuation with similar functions are more easily misused by students.The characteristics of punctuation is regularity and so on.According to the characteristics of Chinese punctuation errors reflected in these corpora,Chinese punctuation errors of Burundi students are mainly divided into two types: punctuation form errors and functional errors.the formal errors are divided into physical errors and format errors;functional errors are divided into leakage,misuse and multi-use.The cause analysis is carried out after the various punctuation errors appearing in the corpus are sorted and classified into formal errors and functional errors.Finally,according to the reasons why Burundi students use the punctuation wrongly,the specific teaching suggestions are given at the end of the paper.For example,for the format bias the parts of punctuation and the functionally confusing parts should be clearly defined and make sure the form of Chinese punctuation marks which students often have errors are especially emphasized.
