| With the development of the global integration process, the communication with various cultural groups has become more frequently;and with more access to other culture groups, there resulted in more bicultural individuals.Bicultural individual has different levels of bicultural identity integration, whether it will affect the interaction between the groups? The current research explores this issue from the perspective of intergroup boundary permeability and intergroup attitudes. The first study explored the impact of the bicultural identity integration on the inter-group boundary permeability.Tibetan students were selected as subjects, using high BII group/low BII group as independent variables;and the intergroup boundary permeability questionnaire score was used as the dependent variable. The result showed that whether they were grouped according to the total score of bicultural identity integration or grouped according to the dimension, the difference between the high BII group and the low BII group was significant. The intergroup boundary permeability scores of the high BII group were significantly higher than the low BII group scores, that is,the bicultural identity integration high group participants considered that the boundaries between the two groups were more transparent, and the bicultural identity integration low group participants considered that the boundaries between the two groups were relatively closed. The second study explored the degree of bicultural identity integration on the intergroup attitude of the bicultural individuals. The Tibetan students were used as subjects, and 2(high BII group, low BII group)× 2(evaluated group: inner group, outer group)× 2(picture valence: positive, negative)mixed experimental design were adapted;in which the high and low BII groups are without-subject variables, the evaluated group and picture are within-subject variables, and the individual’s linguistic abstraction degree to the evaluated group is the dependent variable. The results showed that there were differences in the attitudes of the two groups. On the one hand, regardless of whether the behavioral evaluated groups were positive or negative, the scores of the high BII subjects were not significant for the internal and external groups.however, different results appeared in the low BII group. In theevaluation of positive behavior, the internal group score was significantly higher than the external group score;while in the negative behavior evaluation, the external group score was significantly higher than the internal group score.According to the relevant theory of linguistic intergroup bias,it is suggested that the low BII group participants believe that the positive behavior of the inner group members and the negative behavior of the outer group members have behavioral consistency, while the inner group negative behavior and the external group positive behavior have behavioral behavior. It indicated that the participants in the low BII group had the preference of the internal group and the prejudice of the external group, while the participants in the high BII group did not have the difference in attitude between the internal and external groups. The current study draws the following conclusions:1.The Intergroup boundary permeability of the high BII group was higher than the low BII group.Which indicated that the participants in the high BII group believed that there is more possibility of communication and interaction between the two groups.2.Regardless of whether the titer of the evaluated behavior is positive or negative, there is no significant difference in the attitudes of the participants in the high BII group between the internal and external groups, that is,the behavior of the high-group participants have the same judging criteria, there is no preference for internal groups, and attitudes toward external groups are biased. However, the attitudes of the low BII group were significantly different for the internal and external groups. The low BII group scored higher on the positive behavior of the inner group and higher on the negative behavior of the external group. It indicates that the low BII group participants are more preferred to the inner group and the external group is biased. In summary, the bicultural identity integration has a positive impact on the perception of intergroup boundary permeability. On the other hand, the bicultural identity integration also has a positive effect on the intergroup attitude, indicating the bicultural identity integration plays an important role in the prediction and development of intergroup relations. |
