A Report On Escort Interpreting During The 8^th Dunhuang Tour-Silk Road International Tourist Festival

Tourism plays an important role in contribution to economic growth and poverty reduction.It brings opportunities of economic diversification for Gansu.The escort interpreting in tourism has become more frequent than before in Gansu.The interpreting in tourism characterized by informative,tourists-oriented,culture-loaded.Due to the differences between English and Chinese in religion,tradition and cultural images,it is difficult to get complete equivalence in interpreting culture-loaded expressions.Therefor,this report researched escort interpreting task of the author in tour and analyzed interpreting techniques to overcome difficulties.At June 3,2018,the author accepted the escort interpreting task of the 8~thh Dunhuang Tour-Silk Road International Tourist Festival which sponsored by National Tourism Development Commission of Gansu.Her guests were 6 foreign representatives of Overseas Travel Agencies and one government official form Spain.Taking the interpreting task in the 8~thh Dunhuang Tour-Silk Road International Tourist Festival as a case study,the report puts forward difficulties due to cultural restriction,large quantities of information without note-taking and deficiency of introduction for background knowledge by Chinese tour guide encountered during interpreting.The author focused on the techniques of escort interpreting and analyzed influence factors and the problems in this task.The report can be regarded as a valuable case of tourism interpreting with the value of further research.She set out six techniques based on Skopos Theory:cultural amplification,reformulation,simplifying,supplement,syntactic linearity and summarizing which ensure interpretation qualified and easily comprehensible.The author put what she had learned before into practice in a proper way,accumulated experiences,and mastered Skopos Theory and interpreting techniques during this task.The author hopes to take her interpreting task in The 8~thh Dunhuang Tour-Silk Road International Tourist Festival as a typical case,by summarizing experiences and problems,she could undertake more interpreting tasks well in the future and hone the interpreting skills and improve professionalism.Meanwhile,the author wishes the report can offer references for other interpreters in tourism.
