A dream of red mansions is a shining star in the long history of Chinese novels.Since its birth,it has been the focus of academic research and discussion.Among them,the most popular one is the various shapes of characters in the works.This is obviously similar to the famous western novel wuthering heights.The characters in wuthering heights may be bizarre or perverse,but there are also a series of androgynous characters.In view of this,the author in the British feminist theorists Woolf character temperament theory about the "double" as a starting point,with similar to "double" the character of temperament theory in the Chinese Taoist theory of "Yin and Yang harmony" discourse on men's and women's temperament collocation to supplement theory,to study the dream of red mansions and wuthering heights in the "double" the shaping of the characters,in order to in study of characters of the two works have a new understanding.This paper makes a comparative study of the male and female characters in a dream of red mansions and wuthering heights,and finds that these characters not only have similar performances,but also have different cultural backgrounds.Firstly,this paper studies the characters with both male and female qualities in the two works from the perspective of feminist theorist Woolf's research theory of male and female qualities--"androgyny" theory and Chinese Taoist theory of "Yin and Yang harmony",and analyzes and summarizes the specific performance of such characters.Secondly,it analyzes the cultural differences and cultural backgrounds reflected in such characters,and finds that there are different cultural ideas under the guidance of the same characters,resulting in some differences.For example,in the equality and complementarity of men and women,the two works have different performances due to different cultural backgrounds.At last,the author explains the great influence of "androgynous" characters in the history of novel creation,and explains the corresponding social and modern significance.
