Resistance And Collection:Circle And Culture Of Indie Musicians

Indie music circle has always been one of the subculture circles in Chinese literary and art circles.And the musician who spend years mixing in bars,live houses,street performances are out of the mainstream of the music circle.Most of these musicians are youth of 80’s generation and 90’s generation.This paper is an investigation and study of the group by the author goes deep into the group as an indie musician,trying to analyze the sub-culture of the indie musician as a branch of contemporary youth sub-culture study through its interpretation of this group.Through the observation and field study of indie musicians,combined with the investigation materials and the perennial experience of being in the indie music circle,and with the ideas and theories of the Birmingham School on youth subculture research,this paper systematically studies the style characteristics of the group,the interaction and game with the mainstream culture,the living conditions of young people in the circle and their internal group identity and communication.Firstly,the paper defines the concept and characteristics of youth subculture group,and then describes and explains the group of indie musicians.it also analyses the unique aspect of indie musicians as a sub-cultural group from the aspects of resistance and style.The paper emphasizes the relationship and contradiction between the resistance of the group to the mainstream culture and the singer’s own expression and appeal,and the interaction in this connection.Taking several indie musicians as examples,this paper describes the mainstream political and commercial forces trying to incorporate this group through management rules,policies,ideology and business operations,and the status of this group in the process of mutual involvement with the mainstream forces and in the game of counter-incorporation.This paper attempts to analyze this sub-cultural group in theory through the reference of"Gramsci Turn"to Birmingham School youth subculture research and follow-up research,hoping to make a little contribution to the theoretical system while describing the status quo of this group.It would be a great fortune if it could provide a fresh perspective for the study of youth subculture theory and make some contribution to the future study of youth subculture.
