In modern society, media becomes more and more important. Therefore, media works should receive enough attention.TV series,as one of the important media forms, deserves our further exploration. The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel Season One,a TV series with a female-centered story, has been discussed heatedly by the audiences all over the world since it was broadcast.A lot of audiences think that this TV series is a work which reflects feminism.Soon, this kind of opinion is overwhelming. However, from the author's point of view,it is a reflection of gender inequality. In order to help audiences understand this TV series more comprehensively and deeply, the author does research on gender inequality from three aspects.By analyzing the main characters' individual images, family status and job categories in The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel Season One,based on the theories of Laura Mulvey's male gaze,Michel Foucault's discourse and power,Judith Butler's gender performativity from the perspective of feminism, this thesis intends to argue that this TV series, though camouflaged with a generally-accepted inspiring feminist story,is actually a reflection of gender inequality.Besides the parts of introduction and conclusion, there are three chapters in this thesis.Chapter one argues that there is gender inequality in terms of individual images by analyzing individual images of the female and the male main characters in this television series, such as dress-up,make-up and so on.Chapter two argues that there exits gender inequality in terms of family status by analyzing the family status of the female and the male main characters in this television series.Chapter three argues that there is gender inequality in terms of job categories by analyzing the job categories of the female and the male main characters in this television series.
