Gaolian was a playwright who was active in the middle and late period of Ming Dynasty,adept in writing poems and medical knowledge.He had wrote the legendary two parts of The Jade Hairpin and Jie Xiao Ji,two volumes of poem of Fang Zhi Lou Ci,two volumes of poem of Ya Fang Zhai Shi Cao and Zun Sheng Ba Jian in the world.He had made great achievements whether in the aspect of poem,verse and song.Gaolian lived in the period from Ming Dynasty Jia Jing to Ming Dynasty Wan Li.During that period,the economy developed and prospered and the ruling class became increasingly corrupt while ideological emancipation and personality development were advocated.The Jade Hairpin was wrote at the growing stage of the legends of Ming Dynasty,which was destined to be endowed with extraordinary character.The Jade Hairpin reflects young men and women’s pursuit of free love and individual emancipation and the aspiration for success and recognition by describing the secular life in Taoist Temple.The dual identity of heroine fills the whole work with irony,which reveals the religious constraint and persecution of the system of feudal ethics and rites to people,reflecting the social ethos of affirming human desire and pursuing individual emancipation in that time.In the process of affective development of hero and heroine,the confinement of environment and struggle against the hinder of negative characters reflect the praise for the courage to pursue the spirit of love.In addition,the arrangement of key plots expressed the recognition and affirmation to the scholar’s desire for success and fame.The artistic features of The Jade Hairpin were mainly embodied in three aspects:in terms of design of plots,it adopted the structure of three lines and three lines parallelled,which were repeatedly interlaced in the drama,not only added the image of characters,but also enriched the plot of the story;in the aspect of diction,The Jade Hairpin contained both elegant melody and diction and humorous and popular spoken parts as,which combined the literariness and the nature of stage of traditional opera,reflecting the implicit and graceful language style;in the field of descriptive techniques,it applied comedy techniques such as partial tones and coincidence properly to enhance the enjoyment and stage performance of text and strive to create the most attractive story.The Jade Hairpin was created at the exploratory stage of opera theory and then numerous classical appeared that could represent the peak of opera theory.Compared to them,The Jade Hairpin need to be improved in many areas,thus,it did not gain extensive concern from the academic circle.Some existing studies on The Jade Hairpin focused on stage performance of Kun Opera or the discussion from a certain point of view and there were less attention paid to the overall study of the text.Thus this essay analyzes and interprets The Jade Hairpin from the two aspects of ideological contents and artistic characteristics and forms deeper comprehension of the legendary work through induction and documentation,which has positive significance to enrich related research of The Jade Hairpin and can provide reference for the follow-up research of literary works produced at the exploratory stage of opera theory in Ming Dynasty.
