Fa-hsien Biography is a travel book written by Fa-hsien in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.Fa-hsien started from Chang’n in 399 AD and traveled to over 30 countries,such as ancient India and Sri Lanka.He went through all the hardships and dangers and returned to Han Dynasty in 412 AD.Fa-hsien Biography was translated into many languages as early as the 19th century.Sha·Damdin,a Mongolian scholar,translated Fa-hsien Biography from Mongolian into Tibetan.Now the transcript of the Tibetan translation is included in Sha·Damdin’s Complete Works.The Mongolian text used in the translation is stored in the Mongolian National Library.From this discovery,we can conclude that Mongolian scholars not only translate Mongolian works from Tibetan,but also translate Mongolian books into Tibetan books,which does great help to the cultural relationship between Mongolia and Tibet.This paper consists of introduction,body(two chapters),summary,reference,and appendix and so on.The introduction mainly introduce the reasons,significance and purpose to choose this topic,and the methods,innovations and source of the text.Chapter one mainly introduces Fa-hsien and Fa-hsien Biography’s general situation of its content and translation version.Chapter two mainly introduces the content of Mongolian-Tibetan translation of Fa-hsien Biography,the comparative study of names and the explanation of words.Finally,the summary mainly introduces the literature value of Fa-hsien Biography and Sha·Damdin ’s contribution to the cultural exchange between Mongolia and Tibet.The appendix includes Latin transcription and photocopying of the Mongolian-Tibetan translation of Fa-hsien Biography.
