A Report On The Translation Of Fashion Forward?Reflection On The Environmental History Of Style

This is a translation project report.The source text is Fashion Forward? Reflection on the Environmental History of Style written by Adam Rome.Environmental history,emerged in the United States out of the environmental movement in 1960 s and 1970 s.Today,under the influence of global issues,environmental history has extended its historical analysis range to social,political,economic and cultural analysis.This paper is a complete thesis with rigorous arguments,which mainly talks about the influence of the changes of styles on environment over time,explains the necessity of sustainable fashion and raises new questions about the prospects for greening capitalism.Under the guidance of skopos theory,this translation report mainly discusses the difficulties the translator encountered during the translation process as well as the solutions to these problems.This translation report includes four parts.The first chapter is the introduction of the translation project,including its background,significance,objective and structure.The second chapter is the introduction of the source text,including its content and stylistic features.The third chapter mainly talks about translation difficulties and translation strategies,mostly analyzing the translation of unfamiliar terms in the field of fashion and environmental history,idioms,advertising slogans in the guide of skopos theory.And the translation methods are literal translation,free translation,transliteration and conversion.The last chapter of this translation report is to conclude lessons gained from the translation and point out the questions needed to be solved.
