| This is a translation project report on the second chapter of Children’s Fantasy Literature: An Introduction——The Fairies,Ghouls and Goblins: the Realms of Victorian and Edwardian Fancy.The source text,composed of five parts,explores how the predecessor of western children’s literature has developed and transformed to the children’s literature due to various factors,including economy,cultural atmosphere and the factors of interests.The first section expounds the forming process of the emerging market for children’s literature and its contributing reasons.The second section describes the phenomenon that fantasy literature was growing due to the addition of various cultural elements.The fourth section lists and analyzes several classic works in the children’s fantasy during its development.The fifth section focuses on the characteristics of the content of children’s fantasy in the 19 th century.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory,this report attempts to analyze how to produce on the target language readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original by applying the translation methods of idiomatic translation,liberal translation,splitting,adverse translation.The translation report is made up of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation task by stating its background and significance.The second chapter gives a brief introduction to the authors and the source text.The third chapter focuses on the communicative translation theory,the cornerstone of the report;then analyzes the source text through its functional,stylistic,and syntactic features that naturally leads to translation methods.The fourth chapter contains translation difficulties;demonstrates how the communicative translation tactic is employed to overcome difficulties.The last chapter makes a summary and distills experience to be learned. |
