Starting From The Triple Definition Of World Literature—Analysis Of Damrosch's Concept Of World Literature

With the continuous development of the globalization process,the exchanges between literatures have become more and more frequent,and the world literature in theory has gradually become an important direction of literary research from the beautiful imagination that Goethe has fallen.In What is World Literature's Conclusion: World Enough and Time,David Damrosch proposes his own definition of world literature from the three dimensions of circulation,translation and reading.This paper will proceed from the historical development of world literature in theory,through the contribution and deficiency of theoretical development,systematically analyze Damrosch's definition of world literature in theory by constructing a theoretical dialogue.In terms of content,the paper is divided into five parts to elaborate.The first part is the historical development of world literature in theory.It mainly analyzes the hotspots of world literature theory in different eras and proposes the achievements and shortcomings in the development of world literature in theory;The second part analyzes Damrosh's elliptical refraction theory from the perspective of circulation and its research dilemma and theoretical dilemma,and discusses in detail the theoretical construction that Damrosh put forward in solving the dilemma in the scope of world literature and the study of world literature;The third part analyzes how world literature can benefit from translation in the perspective of translatability of literary works and the preservation of contextual information.It also analyzes Damrosh's theoretical origin and uniqueness of literary translation in world literature through comparison the different translation theory;The fourth part explores how to effectively enrich the readers and learners' world literature experience through the two aspects of world literature teaching and personal reading,and solve many difficulties in teaching and reading;The fifth part is the conclusion part of this article.It reorganizes Damrosh's world literature concept in general,points out the enlightening significance of Damrosh's world literature theory to Chinese literature research,and reiterates that comparative literature and world literature are inseparable from each other in the identity relationship.It also points out the current significance of Damrosh's world literature concept and its development and transcendence to other theorists.
