| Through the analysis of the appearance of Cezanne’s late watercolor pictures, this paper holds that Cezanne stimulated his exploration of visual language through the thin and uncovered watercolor art media, thus taking the expression of personal feelings as the significance of the existence of the pictures. To a certain extent,it surpassed his early painting concept, that is,to parallelize the picture with the natural object by geometric structure,so as to achieve the existence that the content of the picture is higher than that of nature, and it is the reproduction of the natural feeling of the living body, which is another breakthrough in his painting achievement. The exploration of visual language in watercolor painting is embodied in Cezanne’s watercolor painting Barge on the River around 1875.His efforts and attempts to explore visual language in watercolor painting mark the beginning of his exploration of visual language in watercolor painting. In the process of using watercolor materials,Cezanne is easier to express his spiritual world because of its thin and transparent characteristics, and it is easier to think about the feelings of the reproduced objects.Cezanne applied this knowledge of visual language in watercolor painting to his later oil painting creation. The artistic language of an oil painting medium conveys the state that the artist feels from the object, thus producing the oil painting appearance of Cezanne’s later period, and an artistic expression way relying on the artistic media’s own attributes to reproduce the artist’s inner feelings was born from then on. |
