| This is a report on the Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting of a Training Class on "Zhu Lian Acupuncture and Moxibustion".The author makes a detailed analysis of the typical interpreting cases from the perspective of the Cohesion and Coherence Theory so as to explore the translation methods and strategies for achieving semantic coherence in the Chinese-English consecutive interpreting.Zhulian is a great Chinese acupuncturist who has made a great contribution to the development of acupuncture and moxibustion. In recent years, guided by the country’s "Belt and Road" Initiative and the trend of vigorously developing Chinese medicine, the China-ASEAN Traditional Medicine Exchange and Cooperation Center held this training class, which was taught by Zhu Lian’s disciple Wei Lifu, who is also a national famous doctor of traditional Chinese medicine.First of all, this report briefly introduces the background information of this interpreting practice and the structure of the report. The second chapter describes the detailed information of this task, including the preparation process, the interpreting process and the feedback on the interpreting.Chapter three is a case study in which it starts with an overview of the Cohesion and Coherence Theory and its application in translation practice and research. Then there follows a detailed analysis of the interpreting cases in which the author analyzes the strategies and methods of translating long sentences and segments into English from the perspective of the Cohesion and Coherence Theory. There is a focus on the case analysis of the lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion. The last chapter draws a conclusion for this report including a summary of the experiences the author has drawn from the interpreting practice and suggestions for future practice. This practice shows that in the Chinese-English consecutive interpreting, the interpreter can use such means as lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion to achieve the formal cohesion between the target sentences and the segments, thus achieving semantic and logical coherence. |
