Reading has always played a very important role in English teaching.Reading is not only the focus of English learning,but also one of the important means to test students' comprehensive English ability.However,the current junior high school English reading teaching still has problems such as backward teaching methods,boring reading materials,and single source of reading text.In order to better adapt to the needs of current forms of education,junior high school English reading teaching should update the teaching concept and change teaching methods to improve the quality of teaching.Content-based Instruction(CBI)rose in the late 1960 s,and then quickly became a hot topic in western education and teaching.This teaching method mainly emphasizes that language learning should not only be empty vocabulary,grammar,sentence teaching and practice,but also be meaningful content of knowledge teaching,teaching should be around the students will learn the content and information to be acquired.Language is the medium and means of knowledge transmission.By understanding meaningful content,students can better acquire a second language in a real and natural environment.This thesis is a survey on the application of content-based instruction in English reading teaching in junior high school.The purpose of the survey is to understand the current application of content-based instruction in English reading teaching,to investigate the deficiencies of teachers in the process of applying content-based instruction and then to put forward corresponding suggestions.This thesis mainly focuses on two questions: First,what is the current situation of the application of content-based instruction in junior high school English reading teaching? Second,what are the difficulties and deficiencies in applying content-based instruction in the English reading class? What factors cause the difficulties and deficiencies?The author analyzes and summarizes the thesis through questionnaires,interviews and classroom observations.The main conclusions are as follows: First,the content-based instruction is widely used in junior high school English reading teaching.Second,there are two major difficulties in the application of content-based instruction: First,students lack good study habits.Second,teachers do not pay enough attention to content-based instruction.Finally,in the English classroom teaching,the main teaching methods cannot allow students to maintain their enthusiasm for learning,the source of reading materials is single,the teachers' pay too much attention to the explanation of language knowledge points in the reading class and so on.In summary,the content-based instruction is widely used in reading teaching,which is conducive to changing the boring classroom atmosphere of traditional reading courses,enhancing students' reading interest and effectively improving students' reading ability.However,in the application of content-based instruction to reading teaching,there is still the problem that text content cannot be combined with reading teaching.Through questionnaires,interviews and classroom observations,the author finds that the content-based instruction is applied to the deficiencies and difficulties in reading teaching and puts forward corresponding suggestions to make the content-based instruction fully play its role in English teaching.
