A Report On The E-C Translation Of There Are Jews In My House(Excerpt)from Eco-Translatology Perspective

Eco-translatology was first proposed by Prof.Hu Gengshen in 2001.The theory interprets translation as an alternating cycle of translator's selective adaptation and adaptive selection.This thesis is a translation report.The source language text is from contemporary Jewish American writer Lara Vapnyar's short story "There Are Jews in My House"(2004).The translator adopts eco-translatology when translating the story.This thesis follows the two principles of adaptive selection and selective adaptation,and analyses the translational eco-environment that translator needs to adapt when translating,such as the language style and the cultural background;as well as the specific translation methods that the translator selects.The translation methods are selected based on three-dimensional transformation,that is,linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension.Combining the characteristics of the source language text and the translation,the translator analyses the selection of Chinese four-character words and proper name translation in linguistic dimension;annotation and replacement in cultural dimension;and what the author and translator convey in communicative dimension.
