Since the 20th century, along with the development of globalization, cultural exchanges between countries have become increasingly frequent, among which academic exchanges have played an important role. Therefore,China has also introduced a large number of academic papers.Social sciences,as an important part of the academic papers, provides a basis for people to understand and change the world. At present, the research on social sciences translation mainly focuses on the title and translation but lacks the exploration of the body part of the paper. Moreover, the few translation studies on the main body of social sciences fail to fully consider the unique textual features of social sciences.Social sciences is a kind of text of which the main function is to convey the information and opinions.According to Newmark's typology, the selected translation material is the typical informative text. Therefore, the relative freedom of translation in language application and the accuracy of the text content have brought great challenges to the translation work.In addition, the background information of the original text is multidisciplinary and long and complex embedded sentences are often adopted on account of the unique intertextuality of social sciences.Hence, the author selects the second chapter of Whiteness,Weddings and Tourism in the Caribbean as the translation material and decipher the problems and features of translating social sciences under the guidance of communicative translation theory from lexical, syntax and textual levels, and summarize the corresponding translation methods. In conclusion, improving the reading experience of the target language'readers through transforming the original version into a natural and simple Chinese version has become the goal pursued by the author in translation. The translation techniques proposed in this paper also provide a reference for the translation of social sciences in the future.
