The key notion of Engli.sh Curriculum Standard for General Senior High School(2017 version)published in 2018 aims at developing students' core competencies of English subject and promoting teachers'practice of the view of English learning activity.The teaching design of English classroom should be guided by the core competencies of English subject,namely,every link of teaching design should embody the core competencies of English discipline,and ultimately point to the cultivation of students' language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability.Reading course is a very important part of English teaching in senior high school and plays a crucial role in cultivating students'core competencies of English subject.At present,however,there are still some problems in English reading teaching,such as paying too much attention to sentence learning and training of simple reading skills.The problem of how to design English reading activities to reflect the concept of English learning activity is worthy of in-depth study.Based on the theory of second language acquisition(input hypothesis and affective filter hypothesis)and scaffolding theory,this study adopts content analysis of reading teaching design,classroom observation,and teacher interview as research methods.The author studies the reading teaching designs of NSEFC Student's Book 2 in a senior high school.Through the analysis of 5 English reading teaching designs in a senior high school,5 classroom observations,and interviews with 6 English teachers,this thesis summarizes the problems existing in the teaching design of senior English reading class,and puts forward corresponding teaching suggestions.This thesis provides some references for senior high school English teachers in designing reading teaching class based on the core competencies of English subject.The research finds out the following problems existing in the design of English reading teaching in senior high school.Firstly,the reading teaching design is not complete and specific.There is no analysis of texts and students.Secondly,the types of activities in reading teaching design focus on comprehension activities,which are unbalanced with application and innovation activities.Thirdly,the reading teaching design and core competencies of English subject are not closely connected with each other.Based on the investigation and research,the reasons for the problems above are summarized as follows:first is the limitation of class hours;second.the core competency of English subject is a new concept,which has not been widely popularized;the last factor is the misleading of teachers'traditional experience to reading teaching design.In view of the problems and the reasons,the author puts f-orward suggestions on the design of English reading teaching in senior high school from the following three aspects:firstly,teachers should improve reading teaching design,in particular the analysis of students and texts;secondly,teachers should actively study the core competencies of the English subject,deepening their understanding and applying it in practice;thirdly,activities designed for reading courses should meet the requirements of the view of English learning activity.
