A Project Report On The Translation Of Personal Security:A Guide For International Travelers

International travel is cross-ethnic and cross-cultural,and various security issues will appear on the trip,which will pose a threat to personal security of international travelers.Personal Security:A Guide for International Travelers provides international travelers with prevention and coping methods in case they run into personal security issues.Now there are not many international travel guides specially aiming at personal security,thus English-Chinese translation of this kind of book can not only provide personal security assistance to international travelers from China,but also improve the ability of related organizations to protect personal security of international travelers.This paper is a translation project report based on the translation of Personal Security:A Guide for International Travelers,a travel security book written by Tanya Spencer.The author,authorized by Riskon International,is responsible for the English-Chinese translation from section 1.5.2 to section 1.10.The travel security guide discusses factors influencing personal security of international travelers,such as politics,culture,medical treatment and insurance,and the content of this guide is professional and close to daily life with strong practicability and readability.This report,based on the translation project,gives a detailed analysis to translation strategies in the English-Chinese translation of the travel guide.This report is composed of four parts,namely project introduction,translation processes,translation case studies and the summary,and translation case studies is the core of the report.After analyzing the text,the author finds that this travel guide belongs to informative text,including factive information,descriptive and evaluative information and information of tips.According to these characteristics,the author,guided by the skopos rule,increases the accuracy and readability of the translation by adopting strategies of proper names and terminologies translation,words amplification and omission,change of part of speech and meaning,syntactic linearity and inversion and sentence division and combination,effectively conveying the information to target readers.Through the translation and study of the travel security guide,the author not only provides the entrusting party with a satisfactory translation,but also expects that the translation strategies concluded in this report can offer reference for related subjects.
