| Gerard Genette(1930-2018)was a representative of French structuralist narratology in the twentieth century and made great achievements in the field of literary theory and literary criticism.Based on the research of Genette’s narratology, this thesis takes Genette’s "narrative" concept as the research object, combs and analyzes the definition and discussion of the concept of "narrative" by Genette, and links the concept of "narrative" with other related narratological researchers in order to outline the exact meaning of the concept of Genette’s "narrative".This thesis consists of three parts. The first part introduces the general research of the Genette’s narrative theory, and the purpose and ideas of this thesis. The second part is the main part, which is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analyzes and interprets Genette’s discussion about the boundaries of "narrative".Genette’s"narrative" concept has both narrow and broad senses. He identified the nature of narrow "narrative" by comparing diegesis and mimesis, narration and description, narrative and discourse.Genette also explained the scope of the general "narrative".The second chapter interprets the direct definition of Genette;s "narrative" concept. At this time,"narrative" has changed from expression to trinity of narrative discourse, story and the act of narrating, which means that "narrative" has characteristics of these three and includes their relations with time, mood and voice. The third chapter reviews the characteristics and influence of Genette’s "narrative" concept.Genette’s"narrative" concept is structural, communicative and flexible, and it has promoted the development of narratology. The third part is the conclusion, systematically reviewing the content of the thesis, evaluating the research of Genette’s "narrative" concept, and closing the full text. |
