| As one of the most horrific massacres,the “Nanjing Massacre”existed in an internationally hidden memory in a state of being obscured for a long period of time.The mutual constraints of various forces made that cruel history been indifferent and forgotten.In 1997,the publication of the Chinese writer Zhang Chunru’s long documentary literature The Rape of Nanking: the Forgotten ltolocaust of World War II changed this situation.Later,related literary works,films and television works appeared in large numbers.The “Nanjing Massacre” was finally collected in the form of a highly conscious traumatic memory,and was included in the Register of the Memory of the World by the United Nations in 2015.The long-form literary work Nanjing Requiem which was launched by overseas Chinese writer Jerry Bauer in 2011 tells the rescue and protection of the Chinese people during the massacre by Minnie Vautrin and other international people through the perspective of the narrator Gao Anling.It also shows the Japanese soldiers’ killings,slander and rape against Chinese refugees during the rescue process.This paper iscomposed of five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly expounds the domestic research situation of Jerry Bauer and his works and discusses the relationship between the historical writing of Nanjing Massacre and the literary writing.The second part explores the motivation and purpose of Jerry Bauer’s Nanjing Requiem.The third part focuses on the analysis of the text of Nanjing Requiem,focusing on the analysis of how Jerry Bauer used literary style to write real historical figures,namely Minnie Vautrin,and the present narration of narrator Gao Anling and the rescue of Minnie Vautrin.The fourth part mainly compares Nanjing Requiem with Yan Geling’s novel the flowers of war to explore how the relationship between Women and War is represented in Yan Geling’s and Jerry Bauer’s works.The fifth part makes further summary to the full text. |
