| This is a practice report on the translation of the last four chapters,including “the First of the Railways”,“the New Indian Policy”,“the Last Stand of Chief Joseph and Sitting Bull”,“Letting in the Population”,of the Last American Frontier by Frederic Logan Paxson.The translator believes that the most difficult part is the translation of adverbs because they are widely used and flexible in meaning and position in the sentences.The translator summarizes the difficulties encountered in the translation of adverbs and discusses the corresponding translation strategies and solutions.This report contains four chapters.The first chapter presents the task description,including the background of the task,the meaning of the task and the content of the task.The second chapter demonstrates the task process,elaborating the preparation of translation,the process of translation and the revision of translation.The third part briefly introduces the problems encountered in the process of translation,and then analyzes semantic characteristics of adverbs,location in English sentences and the change of location in Chinese sentences,discussing the concrete examples.The translator puts forward the corresponding translation solutions,which are syntactic linearity,inversion,conversion,restoration and so on.The fourth chapter sums up the whole report,and outlines many a strategy to solve the translation problems of adverbs through personal practice,and provides some suggestions. |
