A Report On Interpreting Project Of The 8^th SSBPRC

Entrusted by Chuanyiguoji（Transit a Word,Transit a World）Co.,Ltd.,the author provided interpreting services including escort interpreting and consecutive interpreting for the 8^thh South Asia-Sichuan Business Promotion Round-Table Conference（SSBPRC）from September 12^th to 20^th,2017.Under the guidance of Daniel Gile?s“Effort Models”,this report analyzes the difficulties in the interpreting project.The author allocates her“energy”based on the practical situation of interpretation and puts forward her version of solutions.The report starts with a particular description of the background,basic information and client?s requirements of the interpreting project.Then,the author has prepared for the interpreting project from the aspects of abbreviations,accent features,scientific terminology,interpretation theory,etc.The interpreting report is divided into Chinese-English and English-Chinese cases.The author analyzes difficulties in the project based on the Effort Models and proposes solutions.Finally,the report presents a self-evaluation based on assessments made both by the Chinese and foreign clients in the project.According to the formula of Gile?s“Effort Models”:The total requirements for interpreting should be less than or equal to the total capacity provided by the interpreter?s brain,which render the interpreting production more fluent.Due to the different features between C-E and E-C interpreting,interpreters may undertake different models of efforts distribution.By analyzing this report,the author finds that whether it is in Chinese-English or English-Chinese interpretation,the basis is interpreters?full understanding of the source language（SL）;the key is the coordination of the various stages in the Effort Models（listening and analysis,memory,note-taking,production,etc.）;the solutions are liberal translation,simplification,omission,etc.;the purpose is to effectively allocate energy and reduce“energy imbalance”.If interpreter?s energy is not properly distributed,it will lead to inaccurate output and loss of information.This report shows that the Effort Models can scientifically guide interpreters allocate their energy in interpreting difficulties（such as,expressions with Chinese characteristics,high-density information,information redundancy,accent,etc.）and reduce psychological and physiological pressures.Thus,interpreters can accurately deliver the Chinese culture and make interpreting effects more influential and appealing,which guarantee the interpreting task is completed successfully.
