A Study On Taijian And Party Struggles In Northern Song Dynasty

Compared with the former dynasty,the prominent characteristic of the Northern Song Dynasty’s politics was the prevalence of the party struggles.As the central supervisory officer,Taijian have fully participated in the party struggle and gradually pushed the party struggle to a situation of vicious development,which had an important impact on the political life of the Northern Song Dynasty.Through the investigation and analysis of Taijian’s participation in party struggle,we can further understand the characteristics and operational forms of the Northern Song Dynasty’s politics.Generally speaking,the party spirit in the Northern Song Dynasty was divided into three stages: the early Northern Song Dynasty,the middle period of the Northern Song Dynasty and the later period of Northern Song Dynasty.Taijian was mainly participated in the party struggle in the middle period and the later period of the Northern Song Dynasty.In the middle period of the Northern Song Dynasty,Taijian participated party struggle which is representative included “Jingyou Party Struggle”,“Qingli Party Struggle”,“Puyi Struggle” and “New Reform Party Struggle”.In the later period of the Northern Song Dynasty,Taijian mainly participated the “new and old party struggle” during the period of Zhezongand “Chongning party ban”.From the form of Taijian’s participation in party struggle,it mainlyincludes threeways:use the supervisory function of Taijian to attack the different parties;use Yushitai’s judicature function to fabricationaccusation,create party prisons;and use the functionof participation in politics to confine party members and fabricate party membership.It can be seen from the above that the prominent characteristics of the Taijian’s participation in the party struggles are reflected in three aspects: First,the way in which Taijian participate in party struggle is open;second,Taijian has gradually become an important force in the process of participating in party struggle;It is the volatility of Taijian’s factional tendency in the party struggle.Taijian’s participation in party struggle has had a profound impact on all aspects of North Song’s politics.For the Northern Song Dynasty,Taijian participated in the party struggle affected the decision of the imperial court,changed the political pattern between Taijian and the prime minister and the monarch,and led to the political turmoil in the later period of the Northern Song Dynasty.As far as the political ethos of the Northern Song Dynasty is concerned,it has intensified the official bureaucratic corruption;it has promptedimperial the debate and reflection on the party to become more frequent;and under the catalysis of Taijian,the party struggle in the Northern Song Dynasty has gradually expanded.From the Taijian system itself,the Taijian system has been destroyed,which has affected the normal functioning of Taijian.As a result,Taijian has gradually become a tool for the private and political struggles of the minister,and the atmosphere of Taijian’s affairs has changed and the main performance is the increasing trend of attack.
