| With the development of economy and society,the advancement of artificial intelligence,employment pressure and competition are becoming increasingly fierce.More and more employees’ families and parents are dedicated to building a superior family resource for their children in order to maintain a certain standard of living.Therefore,the responsibility of taking care of the child’s study life falls on the shoulders of grandparents,who include full-time and part-time caregivers,playmates,consultants,economic supporters and other actors.The ancestral education between the grandchildren and the grandchildren plays a vital role in the development of the grandchildren.At present,due to the serious phenomenon of population aging,more and more grandparents are involved in the education of grandchildren.Psychologists in various countries pay great attention to the research on grandparents’ upbringing,but there are few comparative studies on transnational samples.In this study,a total of 500 students from two middle schools in taiyuan city,Shanxi Province,China and two middle schools in a city in Malaysia were investigated by questionnaire.The relationship between grandparents’ parenting style,parents’ parenting style and problem behavior was studied,and the following conclusions were drawn:(1)there are significant gender differences in the problem behaviors of adolescents in China and Malaysia.Specifically,Chinese boys score higher than girls in problem behaviors.Malaysian girls scored higher than boys.(2)Chinese grandmothers scored significantly higher than Malaysian grandmothers in emotional warmth understanding;There were significant differences in the scores of Chinese and Malaysian grandmothers on the four factors of severe punishment,excessive interference and protection,denial and preference.The scores of Chinese grandmothers were significantly higher than those of Malaysian grandmothers.In addition,there is a significant difference in the gender of grandchildren between the overintervention protection and preference factor of Chinese grandmothers,which shows that the over-intervention protection and preference of boys are significantly higher than that of girls.There was no significant gender difference in the factors of maternal rearing style in Malaysia.In the parenting style of the grandfather,the Chinese grandfather was more punitive and severe than the Malaysian grandfather,and the difference reached a significant level.In addition,there is no significant difference between the genders of grandsons and grandsons in the factors of Chinese paternal rearing style.However,there is a significant difference in the gender of the grandchildren in the excessive interference and severe punishment of the grandfather in Malaysia.(3)the emotional warmth and understanding of grandparents and parents in China and Malaysia can significantly and negatively predict the problem behaviors of adolescents;Severe punishment,excessive interference,denial and other negative parenting styles can significantly positively predict problem behaviors.(4)the national category plays a moderating role in the parenting style and problem behavior of grandparents,and the Chinese grandparents’ warm and supportive parenting style can significantly reduce the children’s total score of difficulties;Severe punishment,excessive interference and other ways to make the child’s total score of difficulties significantly increased;However,the influence of Malaysian ancestral parenting style on children is not as obvious as that in China.(5)the parenting styles of Chinese and Malaysian teenagers play an intermediary role between the parenting styles of grandparents and their problematic behaviors. |
