The paper reports on a study of tasks design in cooperative learning in exemplary lessons in senior high school. The research focus on the types of cooperative learning tasks, the design of output tasks and the ways of participation for other students who were not performing in output stage. The purpose is to analyze different teachers' designs of cooperative learning tasks and to provide some suggestions for English teachers on how to design cooperative learning tasks properly. The subjects involved in this study were thirteen videos of high school English exemplary lessons in Teaching Contest for Secondary School Teachers held in**city in 2017.The researher did classroom observation by watching the videos of these exemplary lessons and analyzed the different designing of cooperative learning by different teachers one by one.The results showed that teachers employed various types of cooperative learning tasks, among which activity-based tasks were used more than text-based tasks, and some tasks were not used by teachers. As for activity-based tasks, listing, ordering and sorting,as well as the comparison were not used by teachers;for text-based tasks,no one used the prediction tasks, memory challenge tasks, restoration tasks and the comparison tasks.Besides, teachers teaching these exemplary lessons pay attention to the output stage, they can use different output tasks timely, but they used more individual presentation than group presentation. Finally, the author found that none of the teachers gave the other students who were not performing tasks in the output stage. They had no ways to participate in the class. It is suggested that teachers should use diverse types of cooperative learning tasks;and they should consider using more group presentation than individual presentation when students output;they should pay more attention to the ways of participation for other students who were not performing in output stage.
