| The Chinese texts are one of the essential subsidiary instruments for the learning of a language.At present,the Chinese independent schools in Malaysia has upheld the mission of inheriting the Chinese culture,thus the Chinese lessons appear to be of extremely importance.The Chinese texts used by the independent schools were edited by The Chinese Biro Working Committee of Dong Zong,Malaysia.The motive of this study is to investigate to see whether the present content of the Chinese texts used by Senior Middle 1 can achieve good teaching and learning results,especially from the perspective of text selection,to see whether it can arouse resonance and approval of the students.As a whole,First Chapter gives a general description towards the scope of my research,including the narration of the research background,the scope and the research motive,the methodology used and the importance of the research.In Chapter 2,the researcher will relate the historical background that led to the birth of the Chinese independent schools,and introduce further the structural system of the independent schools that linked the earlier to the later stages.As for Chapter 3,the researcher briefly discusses the process of Chinese teaching materials that came into being,and its localization process which were divided into 4 phases,namely the old simple learning places in Malay Peninsula,schools before and after independence until this modern age,a continuation of more than a generation.As for Chapter 4,its discussions are related to the social background,the modern environment,the tendency of the values of life and from the perspective of subject matter combined that analyses the selection of texts of Senior Middle 1.Whereas Chapter 5 narrates the use of questionnaire method to acquire the views of students regarding texts’contents and analysis is carried out accordingly;besides obtaining editor’s view regarding localization of text selection.As for Chapter 6,it discusses the shortage of diversified and localized articles and suggestion is made to remedy the shortcomings,namely select more localized articles and if possible,a team of editors should be set up to select or write more articles with localized content.Finally,Chapter 7 mainly focuses its intention on emphasizing the necessity of localizing articles to be selected and it is the direction for compiling such text contents in time to come.Besides,my direction of research is based on the study and analysis of the texts of Senior Middle 1,in which the essential cut in point is the edited dozens of articles,its authors’ background,the themes of the articles,the development of the content plot and the instillation of the values,to a certain extent to see whether it can achieve the proportion of localizing teaching materials.The researcher is of the idea that China as the origin of the Han language,it is extremely correct that China should become an important place of reference,but recently it appears a trend of localizing Chinese or Han language teaching materials so that it can reflect better the national and local circumstances as well as the needs of the people.As it is,the selection of teaching materials for Chinese independent schools should include a bigger scale of localized Malaysian literature.My study will analyze from the angles of national environment,cultural background,language ability,and students’ psychological level to prove that in retaining certain outstanding articles,a certain percentage of local elements needs to be integrated.The methodology adopted in my study includes contextual analysis,analysis of documents,descriptive method,questionnaire,interview and quantitative research.Besides,analysis will be based on educational theories to obtain a conclusion. |
