A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Tour Commentaries Of Maoshan

2018 is the fortieth anniversary of China’ s reform and opening up.During this period of time,China’s national strength has been increasing a lot and the people’s living standards have also been raised to a higher level.As a result,the service industry,especially the tourism industry,has developed quite rapidly.In addition to domestic tourists,foreign tourists often come to visit Maoshan.Therefore,the importance of a good tour commentary,especially one in English version,is self-evident.This project report is based on the tour commentaries of Maoshan Scenic Area.It aims to study the difficult points in the translation of tour commentaries and propose corresponding solutions.As a traditional famous mountain in China,Maoshan has a pivotal position in the history of Taoism,so this tour commentary is abundant with Taoist vocabulary and terminology.Based on this,the translator firstly should have an in-depth understanding of Taoism and its culture.Secondly,the author fully identifies the stylistic features of the original text,including genres,vocabulary and sentence patterns.The report points out three key and difficult points in translating tour commentaries,such as couplet translation,vocabulary translation with Chinese characteristics and long sentence translation.Under the guidance of the theories of skopos and functional equivalence,the author has summarized the concrete and feasible translation methods by illustrating the translation examples:1.In the translation of antithetical couplets,it is of great importance to grasp the connotation of Taoist nouns and the concatenation of the upper and lower lines.In the practice of translation,the author could adopt the method of free translation.2.According to the application principles of different translation methods of domestication and foreignization,the author chooses the foreignization translation method to deal with the translation of vocabulary with Chinese characteristics.3.In the translation of long and complicated sentences,we can use parallel texts for reference,and carry out in-depth analysis of the source text in syntactic and logic aspects.Then the author can translate on the basis of the expression characteristics of the target language.Like an introduction to a scenic spot,the quality of the tour commentaries is of great significance to the future development of the scenic spot,and it is an important platform for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.The author summarizes corresponding translation strategies through the translation practice of "Maoshan Scenic Spots" and hopes to provide a reference for the translation of the guide words in the future.
