According to the 13th Five-Year Plan in China,it aims to pursue “a moderately prosperous society” to China by primarily developing industries to be innovative and sustainable including promoting of machine industries.Nevertheless, there is an insufficient competitiveness for the quality of Chinese industries. To cope with this issue, the standardization for the quality of product in Chinese industries is necessary. As an attempt to improve standards in China by learning lessons from international standards, the objective of this project is to develop a methodology for extracting definition terms from standard documents. This is because definition terms can represent the most relevant content of standard documents. This project highlights on the RAMS(Reliability,Availability,Maintainability, and Safety)international standards.Extracting definition terms from standard documents is a process composed of text extraction and definition terms extraction. As the standard documents are presented in PDF files,we applied PDFMiner and PyTesseract to achieve interested information. Our proposed methodology for extracting definition terms is based on the structure of the standard document. After testing the algorithm, the result of our proposed algorithm provided 0.97 of precision,0.95 of recall, and 0.96 of F-measure(a measure of a test's accuracy)in average manner.
