| As China becomes increasingly more influential on the international community,the consecutive interpretation of the Press Conferences of the Two Sessions is of greater importance in international exchanges.Many long sentences are used in the talks given during the two sessions.The difficulty of interpretation increases especially when the interpreters encounter long sentences with complex content and sentence structure.Existing research on the interpreting of long sentences in interpreting are similar,with a wide range of perspectives and no pertinence.In view of this,this study studies the interpretation of long sentences in detail.Selecting 28 long sentences from the press conferences of the two sessions from 2014 to 2018 as corpus,we find that the long sentences in the press conferences of the two sessions have the following characteristics: 1.high-frequency use of culture-loaded words,political terms and official discourse;2.abundant use of adjectives and verbs;3.multi-level juxtaposition;4.repeated use of vocabulary and structure.It also puts forward the following suggestions for the interpretation of long Chinese sentences: 1.When dealing with long sentences with cultural-loaded words and political terms,we should adopt the methods of direct synonymy transmission,semantic interpretation and consolidation of similar items;2.When dealing with long sentences with repeated words and structures,we should adopt the methods of synonymous lexical repetition,infinitive repetition and structural repetition;3.When dealing with long sentences with a large number of adjectives and verbs,we should adopt the methods of synonym repetition,adding or repeating conjunctions,avoiding the use of English verbs and transforming words into clauses;4.When dealing with long sentences with multi-level juxtaposition,we should adopt the methods of adding words and reducing grammatical levels.These strategies can effectively deal with the difficulties of long ChineseEnglish sentence interpretation. |
