Interpreting Project Manager Internship Report

In the context of globalization,China’s “go global” strategy speed up and “sharing Chinese stories” with the world in foreign languages has become a necessity for China.With various motives,international expositions and conferences have been booming in China in recent decades,which to a large extent has driven the development of China’s language service industry.However,there is still lack of specific standards on translation and interpreting projects management for expositions and conferences.To both language service providers(LSPs)and the clients,there is no comprehensive formula for language service.Especially the standardized interpreting project management in MICE industry almost remains a virgin land for scholars.Researches on translation project management are relatively richer and getting more and more involved with emerging technologies.Localization has also become an independent branch in the field,while studies on interpreting project management are fewer.In such a background,the author has written this report based on her actual working experience of the internship in the Liaison Office of Guangxi International Exhibition Affairs Bureau during July ~ September 2018.This paper applies methods of experiment summarization and interdisciplinary research,through which the author has combined her experience of working as a project manager in different occasions and the existed project management standards.This report focuses on the interpreting project management in the MICE(i.e.Meetings,Incentives,Conferences and Expositions)context.By analyzing the project management process in her internship to detect the challenges and problems in real life,the author is trying to provide some programmatic suggestions for the exhibition interpreting management in general.Furthermore,the author hopes to tailor a project management system for the exposition context.The major results of this paper are the suggestions for interpreting management in MICE industry based on actual practice and a process table made by the author for reference.
