| Based on Gile’s effort model in consecutive interpreting,this paper explores the feasibility of using speech recognition in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting,analyzes the impact of speech recognition on human interpreters,and gives suggestions for its future development.The author used the iFlytek speech recognition software to transcribe a Chinese speech into texts,and used video editing software to convert the texts into subtitles according to the recognition speed of the software.The author divided the participants into two groups: the Experimental Group using the speech recognition software to assist consecutive interpreting,and the Control Group without using any computer aids.After the experiment,the author collected and analyzed the experimental data and collected feedback from the Experimental Group.The experimental results show that speech recognition can relieve the memory burden on interpreters and improve the accuracy rate,fluency and quality of translation.However,errors in the texts may have a negative effect on interpreters.In conclusion,the combination of human interpreters and speech recognition helps to reduce the memory burden on interpreters and improve the quality of the translation,but the accuracy rate of the speech recognition and its ability to identify errors need to be improved. |
