This translation practice report is based on the rewriting theory of Lefevere, the main representative of the translation manipulation school, and takes the military literary work Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge: The gripping true story that inspired the movie as an example. The report examines this work and its translation in the context of modern culture and society. It mainly analyzes how the translation of this work is influenced by ideology, poetic norms and patronage in the process of formation of the translation. This confirms the classic view of the translation manipulation school that the translator is intentionally or unintentionally influenced by the mainstream ideology of the target language culture, poetic norms and patronage in the process of translation. When the target language culture conflicts with the source language culture, the translator will adjust corresponding translation strategies and the original text will be rewritten differently. This translation report uses a case study method to explore the rewriting phenomenon and its main influencing factors in the translation. The report is supported by the rewriting theory of Lefevere, the representative of the translation manipulation school. It analyzes the rewriting of the translation compared to the original text under the control of mainstream ideology, poetic form and patrons. The corresponding rewriting strategies under the influence of manipulation factors are also discussed in the report. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction, which mainly introduces the background and significance of this translation practice project. The second chapter is the detailed description of the project. It mainly analyzes and expounds the translation practice project of “Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge” from three aspects: pre-translation preparation, analysis of difficulties and key points during the translation process and post-translation management. The third chapter is an overview of the rewriting theory. It introduces the different factors that affect the translation strategies in the translation manipulation school and the rewriting theory. The fourth chapter is the translation case study.Taking the Chinese translation of“Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge” as a reference, this chapter mainly discusses the translation strategies and skills which are used in the translation practice from theperspectives of translation manipulation school and the rewriting theory under the guidance of the three manipulating factors---ideology,poetry and patron. It also focuses on the corresponding methods that the translator has adopted to rewrite the original book transcending the language as a support of Lefevere’s rewriting theory under the influence of ideology, poetry, patron and other control factors. The fifth chapter summarizes the contents and findings of this report and concludes the problems and experiences encountered in the translation and research process. After researching and summarizing,it can be seen that in the process of translating Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge, the translator is mainly influenced by traditional cultural ideology and mainstream religious ideology at the ideological level, and the part of the original text that conforms to the mainstream ideology is retained and faithfully translated into the target language, meanwhile the translator emphasizes the part that meets the theme of the book.In terms of poetic form, the influence on the translator is more reflected at the microscopic level of the original text, which is embodied in the grasping and processing of cultural imagery and language style. The substitution, addition and deletion of cultural imagery as well as the changing of language style makes the translation conform to the poetic norms and the aesthetic concept of the target language readers. Therefore,it will improve the reader’s acceptance of the translation and the readability of the translation itself.
