| The advent of globalization has provided a solid foundation for frequent exchanges between the East and the West.As a tool to understand the world,English carries the will of Chinese people to understand the western world.In the frequent exchanges between China and the West,English news is an important carrier of information exchange.As a well-known news magazine in the world,The Economist enjoys an enduring reputation in the world for its humorous and flexible style of articles and novel ideas.In addition,80% of the subscriptions to The Economist come from overseas and have a wide audience.Therefore,the author hopes that the translation of humanities articles in The Economist can not only promote the improvement of individual translation ability,but also increase the understanding of western humanities history.Under the guidance of Newmark’s Semantic Translation Theory and Communicative Translation Theory,this report is on translation practice based on the humanistic articles in The Economist.This report contains all the materials that should be included in this translation,including,but not limited to,the selection of source language materials,pre-translation preparation,background analysis,translation of cultural words,etc.In this translation practice,guided by Newmark’s translation theory,the author adopts the research methods of addition and division in the process of translation.Through the exploration of the translated articles,the author has the following understandings:(1)in the process of translation,the author should carefully evaluate the translation materials,making preparations before translation,and thoroughly understand the guiding theory;(2)When facing the culture-loaded words in the source text,the author should make extensive verification to get the best explanation;(3)When dealing with proper nouns,the author should emphasize the use of domestication and alienation.(4)Due to the objective differences in the way of thinking and expression between English and Chinese,the author adopts flexible translation methods for complex sentences in the process of translation,including adding,transforming,disassembling and reorganizing.Through this translation practice,the author believes that the translation of humanistic articles in The Economist needs to achieve the following three points: firstly,bilingual competence.The translator can grasp a large amount of information contained in the source language.Secondly,culture.In the process of translation,the translator will encounter various types of culture-loaded words.When translating,the translator should analyze them in the light of the context.Thirdly,the translator should understand the needs of Chinese readers in the process of translation,and be able to complement the logical structure to make the translation more fluent.Through this translation practice,the author hopes to be able to provide help and reference for the translation of The Economist in the future. |
