A Study On The Imperial Examination And Education Of Han Family In Liao Dynasty

The Northern Song Dynasty(960 A.D.-1127 A.D.)and the Liao Dynasty(907 A.D.-1125 A.D.)began to get along peacefully after The Alliance of Chan Yuan,which made the rulers of the Liao Dynasty turn to internal governance and improved the system of imperial examinations.From the Emperor Shengzong in Liao Dynasty,a great number of Han families succeeded in maintaining and rising their family status through the imperial examination,including the re-empowerment of the old military family in the early period of the Liao Dynasty and the successful rise of the lower and middle Han families and ordinary Han families.It can be said that among the Han family groups in the Liao Dynasty,it has become a common practice to take imperial examinations as a main career.In addition,when the Han families are keen on the imperial examinations,they also pay attention to the education of their children.Thanks to their own cultural and resource advantages,these Han families emphasize education within the families.The characteristics of such family education are very clear: aiming at passing the imperial examination,they taught their children the Confucianism and cultivated their moral quality in a flexible way.Due to the scarcity of historical and archaeological materials,the academic research before on the Han family in the Liao dynasty focused on case analysis.It was under the unremitting efforts of the former scholars that the Han family network came into being.Thanks to those research findings,this paper can make a classification study of the Han families in Liao dynasty and discuss the characteristics of various families’ participation in the imperial examinations and family education.After the successful rising in political status of the Han families in Liao Dynasty,its influence on the Liao Dynasty society was not only limited to the ruling class,but also on the transformation of social culture and national concepts.Under this condition,the culture of Liao Dynasty has been further developed,and the cultural identity of the Han family and Qi family has been formed,which,at the same time,opens up a new path for the existence of minority regimes.
