The political process of Zheng Xia,an official of the Northern Song Dynasty,is a type of "Objector of the Reformation" which responds to the ups and downs under the background of the party struggle in the late Northern Song Dynasty.Zheng Xia gained recognition from Wang Anshi in his early period.Therefore,two people intersect deeply.When Zheng Xia became a civil servant,however,owing to the incompatibility of temperament and political assertion,they gradually drifted apart.In the process of the enforcement of Xi Ning Period New Policies,with the appearance of more and more drawbacks and the failure to persuade Wang Anshi to give up some relevant measures several times,he made a decision to submit a report of the disadvantages of the new policies to Shenzong emperor,which brought about Wang Anshi’s resignation from the position of prime minister for the first time.The incident of senting the Refugee Picture(《流民图》)caused political unrest and intensified the contradictions between the political forces of the two factions in the imperial government.The reform clique led by Lu Huiqing,for both public and private political purposes,took the opportunity of vengeance against Zheng Xia to rise up the imperial edict prison,and won the support of Song Shenzong.The case eventually purged all the anti-reform forces in the court,but at the same time led to internal strife among the reformers.After the case,Zheng Xia was exiled to Guangdong,where he lived for a long time,and has not returned untill he died.Nevertheless,his life was constantly affected by political changes in the government.After the Zhezong’s period in the Northern Song Dynasty,with the new and old political forces taking power in rotation,Zheng Xia in the south also went up and down.More importantly,Zheng Xia’s reputation in the crowd has since become better.In the long time relegation,Zheng Xia integrated into the conservative group which was represented by Su Shi and he also connected with the local officals.And in the historical books of later generations,his namebelongs to the old party.
